Hi Punto folks! Does anybody know gear ratios and final drive for 2003 Punto 1.2 8V? My Dad would like to know this. In polish instruction manual and service book there are no such data And I found data only for 1.2 16V engine on FF Thanks in advance! And greetings from Panda Classic section Sutjeska PS. I found something!
The more basic 8v engines are produced manly for torque - for example a mk1 1.4 punto gt had the same bhp as the mk2 1.8 16v HGT which had vvt, but the GT had more torque due to the turbo. When comparing the 1.2 8v and 1.2 16v engines there should be slightly better emissions on the 16v.
I haven't got eper either, but upon checking the Exhaust cam lift it shows both the Punto and Stilo 1.2 and 1.4 16v engines have the same amount. However the timing angles (when the valves are opened/closed) differ- the 1.4 opens 2 deg earlier and closes 2 deg earlier.
Buying a Polo makes no sense at all. As mentioned above a Fabia or Ibiza make much more sense. Either way with a 1.2 none of these cars will be as much fun as a Punto. If you get a 1.2 16v Punto you'll have a car with proven reliabilty and an engine that loves to be revved.
