They’re also pretty good at keeping you on track with your training plan’s hard workout days, but there’s one problem: While training plans have paces written as minutes per mile, treadmill buttons are labeled with MPH. And, unless you’re running 6- or 10-minute miles, the math gets a little tricky.

Of course, there are runners out there who can run under 20 minutes or faster for the 5k distance. That being said, the term “good” is going to have different meaning for different people. For example, someone who has run 30:15 for 5km may think a 24 minute 5K is good. The athlete who has run 17:30 may think a time of 16 minutes or faster
It takes a regular healthy person to run 3 miles between 33-36 minutes. This corresponds to an 11-12 minutes per mile pace or 5.00-5.45 miles per hour on a treadmill. This is a good result for someone who does some regular physical activities and hasn't intentionally prepared for a run.
For a young man training relatively seriously for a year or so maybe 36 minutes for a 10k and 17 for a 5k or thereabouts. Add a minute or two on for a woman. I'd say those are fairly good times, achievable by the vast majority but requiring serious training. If you wanted a target for a beginner 40 minute 10k seems to be the classic.
